41 & Done: Mick Jones And Lou Gramm With The Morning Zoo
For this edition of 41 & Done, our very own John DeBella tells the story about the Morning Zoo’s dinner with Foreigner’s Mick Jones and Lou Gramm.
When people ask John, “Gee, is there anything you’re going to miss doing on the radio?” the one thing that always comes to his mind is the shows The Morning Zoo did in Atlantic City. The show would invite listeners to a yearly live event down the shore. It was so popular, in fact, they’d have to turn the room over. It was the only way to accommodate the number of people that showed up. One group would be in for a few hours. Then they’d switch, so more listeners could get the chance to watch.
On this one occasion, both Mick Jones and Lou Gramm were in town representing Foreigner. The night before the guys were to appear at the broadcast, Mick Jones went to dinner with John, Lisa (John’s wife, who was not his wife at the time), and a rep from Atlantic Records. The rep for Atlantic Records was being so foul-mouthed, Mick Jones had to tell him off for talking like that. Especially in front of a woman.
To this day, Lisa’s favorite rock star of all time is Mick Jones from Foreigner because he was her champion.
