The Eagles Need to Rebound Quickly
Sunday’s game against NFC rival San Francisco 49ers was ugly. The Eagles got embarrassed. They got exposed in some ways, that need to be fixed quickly. The loss was not a pretty one, and the Eagles need to rebound quickly. They don’t have a choice because they’ve got another good NFC foe waiting for them in Dallas.
That game against the 49ers was an absolute ass kicking. San Francisco not only talked all the talk leading into it, they downright walked the walk. Sometimes an embarrassing loss is good for a team. Especially a team with such high hopes as the Philadelphia Eagles. When you get embarrassed it makes you take a look at your issues and it knocks you off your throne a bit.
Lucky for the Eagles, they have a leader like Jalen Hurts who will have this team ready to go Sunday Night in Dallas. Hurts will have the offense ready to go, but the defense is where the alarm bells are ringing. Once again the Eagles face off against a very good offense that is currently on fire. Dak Prescott is playing some of the best football of his career. So good that, after last night Eagles performance, he has leapt Hurts and is the current favorite to win the NFL MVP.
Eagles defensive coordinator Sean Desai has to figure out a game plan that will protect his struggling linebackers. The leaders of the defense need to have that unit ready to go, or the Eagles are going to be looking at a totally different last few weeks of the season.
The Eagles got kicked in the face by the 49ers. As Eagles fans, lets hope that was the kick they needed to see the weak spots on this team. Good thing for this team is they have no time to wallow in the loss. A massively important game awaits them in Dallas on Sunday Night Football. Jalen will be ready, will the defense?
The 9 Numbers The Eagles Have Retired, And 8 More They Should
The Eagles have been around for a long time. They were founded in 1933, making then the 8th oldest team in the NFL. And some of those teams older than them have either moved or changed their name in that time, while the Eagles have always been the Eagles, except for one year in the 40s where they merged with the Steelers to become the Steagles.
Throughout those 80+ years of existence, things have not always been great. In the 40s they were a near dynasty, winning two National Championships at the end of the decade. Then in 1960, they took down the juggernaut that was Vince Lombardi’s Packers. But once the Super Bowl era started, the Eagles winning ways ended. It took until 1980 for them to make a Super Bowl, and until 2017 to win one. The Andy Reid era featured a ton of wins, just not in the most important game of the year.
But despite the lack of Super Bowl Rings until recently, thee have still been a lot of great players to come through Philly. Some All-Time great players. The likes of Reggie White, Jerome Brown, Brian Dawkins, and more. In fact the Eagles have sent 25 players to the Hall of Fame.
But there is an honor even more rare, saved for only the greatest Eagles of All Time. Having your Jersey retired. So far only 9 players have been given that honor. But are there more on the way? Lets first look at the 9 guys whose Jersey numbers have already been retired. And then lets look at the cases of 8 more guys who may have a shot at one day seeing their numbers up there among the other greats in Eagles history.
