Who’s Taller, Me or Shaq? Remembering the Time I Got A Picture With The Legendary Shaquille O’Neal in 2011
Did I ever tell you about the time I met Shaq and got a picture with him?
During my many years as the public address announcer for the Philadelphia 76ers, I have had the pleasure of getting to meet and announce some pretty cool people.
Obviously, we can start with just the basketball players like Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and even Steph Curry, who was impressed with my pregame introductions.
And that’s not even counting the numerous celebrities that have come through the Wells Fargo Center to catch a game.
All that being said, I don’t think any of them were quite as big as Shaq!
So back in 2011, the Boston Celtics were in town to play the 76ers, which meant the Big Diesel was in the building.
And, yes, for those that forgot, Shaq had a quick stint with the Celtics at the end of his career for the 2010-2011 season.
Anyway, my friend at the time was one of his agents and said that I should get a picture with Shaquille.
Of course, the only way I could respond to that was a pretty simple answer — heck yes!
To this day, the picture still makes me laugh simply because of how big of a human Shaq is.
He is 7’1” tall and I am barely 6’0”!
He wears a size 23 shoe and I wear a size 11!
Talk about a literal giant — both literally and figuratively as a matter of fact.

His resume speaks for itself.
He is a four time NBA Finals champion, a three time NBA Finals MVP, a regular season MVP, a 15 time All-Star, and he even has his number retired by three different teams — #34 with the Los Angeles Lakers and #32 with the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat.
And that is just naming a few accolades.
Unfortunately, one of those NBA Finals MVPs came against the Sixers in 2001, but what can you do?
Anyway, my favorite part of the picture is that his shirt is the length of my whole body.
It cracks me up.
