The Day We Changed Computer Systems During My Show
Well yesterday was pretty eventful in the MGK air studio. With the help of a good dozen engineers, IT guys and consultants, we completely changed the computer system we use for music and commercials here on MGK – and it was all done during my show.
Of course, gone are the days of turntable, cart machines and reel to reel decks
While most DJs would bristle at the thought of tech dudes crawling all over the studio, under the console, and everywhere else, I welcome it. My life is nothing but chaos anyway – why not add to it?? Besides, I’m a tech geek myself so I wanted to get my hands dirty and check this baby out for myself, and see what bugs I could discover or short cuts I could use. I begged them to make the switch during my show but, originally, they decided 9:00am would be the best time. After a few bumps in the road, they moved the start time to 3:00pm, right in the middle of my show. Sweet!
Since all I’d be doing would be getting in the way during their installation of the new system, I thought I’d record the event for posterity, and show what talent, teamwork, and a good about of humor and chop-busting can accomplish. We made the switch, as you’ll see below, and no one listening to MGK noticed a thing. No blip, no upcut, nothing cut off, just a super smooth transition made by Joe and Rob Grusman, another of our talented engineers. To Joe’s credit, he did ask me to take part in the actual transition, but I chickened out. Leave it to the pros.
So a big thank you to Joe B, Don Melnyk, Rodney Byrd, Dan The Man, and all of the other techs, engineers and IT guys who helped make this transition go so well! You guys all rock!
