Congrats to Preston and Steve on 25 Years in Philly Radio
Congratulations to Preston and Steve and all the people involved in their show throughout the years for 25 years in Philly radio!
Of course, the past 18 of those years have been right down the hall at WMGK’s sister station, WMMR.
Before that, it all started for them at another radio station in Philly that no longer exists, Y-100.
Obviously, they started on-air at Y-100 in 1998, and they were there for about seven years.
For all of you listeners out there that do not know, I also was a part of the on-air staff at Y-100, so I go way back with Preston and Steve.
I did the 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. show every day for the station.
Back in early April of 1998, the big promotion for the station was that Y-100 was giving away Volkswagen Beetles — or as it was branded the new beetle!
We actually shot a pretty funny commercial for the promotion with a bunch of the on-air staff!
It was about a 30-second spot in total, but it was a lot of fun to film and to be on the set.
The main picture of this post is actually from the set that day!
From left to right, the people in the photo are Brett Hamilton, Leeann Curtis, myself, Marilyn Russell, and Preston Elliott.
This was all of us in our celebrity chairs the day of the commercial shoot in West Chester, PA, all the way back in April of ‘98.
That day was so fun looking back on it!
I wonder where any of those VW Beetles ended up and if they are still on the road somewhere.
Maybe in a museum?
Who really knows?!
But congrats to Preston and Steve again for providing the greater Philadelphia area with amazing radio for over 25 years now!
I wonder what the next 25 years will hold!

My Bike Ride From South Philadelphia to the WMGK Studios
I love when the spring finally hits and the weather starts to warm up!
Of course, it means summer is getting closer and closer.
The Phillies season has just started.
And the NBA Playoffs are underway, with hopefully a deep run in store for the Philadelphia 76ers!
But one of the main reasons I love this time of year is because I can finally ride my bike to and from work again a few times a week!
I love riding my bike as much as I can to work at the WMGK studios at 1 Bala Plaza from my house all the way in South Philly.
It is honestly such a scenic route that I never get tired of riding through.
I pass through the gorgeous Kelly Drive, including the iconic Boathouse Row section of the city!
Also along my trip, I pass the Rocky statue, so whenever I get tired that gives me the extra motivation to last the extra rounds like our favorite fictional boxer would do!
I can’t forget Delancey Street, either!
The homes on that street are beautiful!
I also pass some great establishments in the city during my ride!
One of these is a restaurant called Rouge, which easily has some of the best burgers in the whole city!
Another place I pass is the Mitchell & Ness headquarters!
For all my sports lovers out there, you have to stop by one of their flagship stores because they have some of the best sports gear and memorabilia in the game!
My favorite part of the route is along the Schuylkill Trail!
Then, finally, the homestretch down legendary South Street.
Altogether, it is 10.8 miles total and I do it typically in just under an hour!
I know that information thanks to my Strava map!
I put some photos and videos together from my ride so you guys can see what I see and enjoy!
