I’m Thrilled The Iconic Jim’s Steaks South Street Is Open Again After 2 Years
The other day my wife Pattyann and I were walking down South Street, and guess what? A Philadelphia staple is back up and running — Jim’s Steaks South Street!
Jim’s Steaks South Street is finally back open again after being closed for nearly two years due to a tragic fire that destroyed their building.
There was definitely a void in the city that people were missing during those down years, but with every sad story, there’s always a great comeback!
And that’s exactly what has happened with Jim’s Steaks South Street — home of one of the best and most popular cheesesteaks in the city.
People are definitely particular about their favorite cheesesteaks, so those who rank Jim’s Steaks South Street as their favorite were probably distraught when the fire happened a few years ago.
Now, I can only imagine the look on their face when they get to walk up to the renovated building and order their first Jim’s cheesesteak in two years!
The New Look Jim’s Steaks South Street…
Speaking of the renovated building, Jim’s Steaks South Street did some work to it during those two years, but it still maintained a lot of its original character.
The place still has its original counters for stand-up eating inside, and when you first walk up, you’ll notice the front door is the same.
As for the changes, Jim’s Steaks South Street added about 1,900 square feet during the course of its renovations since it bought its former next-door neighbor, the Eye Gallery.
You might remember it from all the Magic Gardens stuff and glass mosaics on the wall.
Jim’s Steaks South Street officially opened to the public last Wednesday, May 1st, and I can only imagine the fanfare that day!
They also had a soft opening that Monday for friends, family, and first responders.
I can’t wait to head back in and get my first cheesesteak there in years!
Maybe I’ll do it for dinner — who knows!
