Happy 10-4, Good Buddy!
On this 10/4 I wanted to pay tribute to all the truckers, work drivers and travelers who traverse the highways across the US. Radios of all types are a road traveler’s friend and truckers are probably the last people to actually use CB radios these days. As a kid, it was always a fantasy of mine to hit the road and see what was out there. My Dad and I used to throw out the 10 codes when we took our walkie talkies out on long bike rides. I guess that’s why I took my daughter cross-country three times!
So on 10/4, “OK” in trucker CB lingo, brush up real quickly on your lingo:
And let’s enjoy these great songs about truckin’, and travelin’, across the USA…
Convoy – CW McCall
The trucker anthem!! You never hear this anymore!! Fun fact: on this performance from 1976 on the Mike Douglas Show, my Dad was standing just offstage! (He worked on the show during its entire Philadelphia run.)
Willin’ – Little Feat
Definitely my fave trucker song, and Little Feat song, ever. Miss you, Lowell.
America – Simon & Garfunkel
Sheesh, can Paul Simon write a beautiful song!!
Roll On Down The Highway – BTO

Great for so many reasons, one of which is that it’s sung by CF Turner!
Truckin’ – Grateful Dead
You think I WASN’T going to include this??
Uneasy Rider – Charlie Daniels
Charlie’s first hit was a story, whether or not true, about a detour during a road trip.
Take It Easy – Eagles
Of course, during our 2016 cross country trip along I-40, we HAD to stand on that very corner.
East Bound And Down – (from Smokey & The Bandit) – Jerry Reed
Reed is one of my favorites, for “Amos Moses” alone, and I loved this scene in Smokey & The Bandit with him, Burt Reynolds and Jackie Gleason.
Great, now I want to hit the road!!
