Ex-Van Halen Member Raising Money In Memory Of Grandson
Ex-Van Halen bass wizard Michael Anthony has lent his incredible musical talent to several successful groups over the course of his career, whether it was with Van Halen, Chickenfoot, or Sammy Hagar And The Circle. Now he is in a group, called Rex And The Heartbeaters, that may be his more successful one of them all. But this is not the type of group you may be thinking of. This group are a team of family members and friends of Michael’s who are taking part in “Walk And Play L.A.,” in memory of Anthony’s grandson, Rex.
Rex Michael Becerra was born in March, 2017 with an undiagnosed heart condition and had to undergo open heart surgery at just 7 days old. Sadly, though the operation was deemed a success, baby Rex passed away just a week later. Michael and his family have honored Rex’s memory every year, as well as the staff of Children’s Hospital Of Los Angeles who took care of Rex, by participating in Walk And Play L.A., a 3k walk and community event to benefit CHLA. So far, Anthony and his team, called Rex And The Heartbeaters, have raised over $250,000 for the cardio thoracic intensive care unit at CHLA, and they’re ready to add to that total this year.
Anthony says, “Even though Rex’s life was cut short his story will continue to be told and his legacy will live on. We will continue to support all the amazing doctors and nurses that work miracles every second of everyday at CHLA.”
The event takes place Saturday May 20, and this year Michael is hoping to hit his goal of $50,000 for Children’s Hospital Of Los Angeles. you can make a donation, as well as learn more about the Walk and the work CHLA does, by visiting Michael Anthony’s “Team Rex” page HERE.
