Hey! Debbi Calton here. I’m a little late to the party but I FINALLY started watching last year’s movies:Oscar contenders and otherwise. I still have a ways to go but so far I’ve watched the following flicks. Here’s what I’ve watched & my thoughts on each.

Respond to the Facebook post I did on WMGK’s Facebook page to let me know what great movies from 2017 that I’m missing out on.

GET OUT – wild satire framed in horror with societal commentary….didn’t see all that coming!

THE FLORIDA PROJECT — almost documentary like. Its bleakness is offset by the optimism and enthusiasm of childhood. The kids in this movie are amazing.

THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI — Nobody is a saint in this movie about instinct and rage and lopsided redemption. Hard to watch at times but very compelling.

THE BIG SICK — a pleasant rom-com

LADY BIRD — an incredibly insightful coming of age tale. Extremely well written and acted and believable.

CALL ME BY YOUR NAME — my favorite so far. The scenery, setting and cinematography are exquisite. Another (quite different) coming of age tale.
