Today (July 13th) marks anniversary of Live Aid.  The legendary benefit show, which took place at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia and Wembley Stadium in London, helped raise more than $125 million for African famine relief efforts and was broadcast live in 110 countries and was watched by over a billion people worldwide.  Here are some of our favorite performances from that historic day plus MGK’s Debbi Calton recounts her Live Aid experience.

Debbi Calton recounts here Live Aid Experience
I was working on air at WYSP during the first half of the day for Live Aid. I was fielding all the reports from JFK and was jumping out of my skin until my shift was over and I could get down there. It was VERY hot that day. I got into the stadium around 5PM or so when Tom Petty was playing. Standouts for me were POWER STATION who made JFK shake big time. Led Zeppelin, of course, was a magical experience with EVERYONE holding up lighters during “Stairway.” But perhaps the most electric (pun intended) performance was Mick Jagger and Tina Turner doing “State of Shock.” Talk about animal magnetism! All those hot sweaty bodies, all 100,00 of them, were dancing wildly. What an incredible day for Philadelphia!

Here are some of our favorite performances

Thanks for 10 000 likes to God! What do you do when you get lonely? And nobody's waiting by your side? You been running and hiding much too long. You know it's just your foolish pride. [Chorus:] Layla, you've got me on my knees. Layla, I'm begging, darling please.
