Conspiracy Theory: The Music Industry Killed Off Classic Rock!
Rock and roll has undoubtedly stood the test of time, but the 1990s marked an abrupt shift in its trajectory. Perhaps Jethro Tull winning the Best Hard Rock/ Metal recording at the 1989 Grammys was a harbinger of the bizarro world to come. The 90s hit and suddenly guitar-driven rock was compartmentalized to traditional rock, a fizzling hair metal scene and some strange new animal called grunge.
With the aptly titled Nevermind, bands like Nirvana all but made the music industry completely forget about tried-and-true rock acts that dominated the decades before. Was it a natural progression of culture and taste, or something more contrived and calculated? This YouTuber raises some interesting points…
