Pigskin Picks NFL Week 1
The return of the NFL season is here, and it’s time to get back to Pigskin Picking. On air, we’re going to use our friend, Pat Egan, from down the hall at 97.5 The Fanatic. But I want to do my own picks and compare them to Pat’s record. You can be sure I’ll rub it in his face if my record is better by the time the Super Bowl wraps up. Like rubbing a dog’s nose in poop on the carpet (do people actually do that?) Last season I started hot, before hitting a late-season lull, but finished above .500 at 23-22. Pigskin Picks is brought to you by the Bet Parx Casino and Sportsbook App. Go to BetParx.com. Must be 21. Gambling Problem? Call 1-800-Gambler.
Let’s get started.
Commanders @ Cardinals – Wash -7
The Cardinals are an abomination. No Kyler Murray to run around for 10 seconds to get a WR to open up. The Washington defense is actually pretty talented and should have no problem giving QB Sam Howell short fields to work with. Offensively for the Commanders, they’ve got some talented skill position players. Expect big things out of RB Brian Robinson, WRs Terry McLaurin, and Penn State Alum Jahan Dotson. Washington covers the 7 easy.
PICK: Washington -7
Packers @ Bears – Chi -1
A storied NFC North rivalry is about to take on a completely different look. For the last 30 years, Green Bay had Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre at QB. That has led to quite a lopsided record in this rivalry. Since 1992 the Packers are 43-13 against the Bears. Not much of a rivalry. Now the pendulum may be swinging towards Chicago as QB Justin Fields begins his 3rd NFL season, and Jordan Love is beginning his first full season as the starter in Green Bay. Chicago has a good enough defense, and much better offense that this line of -1 is too small. A couple of Packers WRs are hurt, and it’ll be tough for their offense to keep up with the weapons that Chicago has built around their young QB. Bears flip the rivalry back starting Sunday.
Pick: Chicago -1
Eagles @ Patriots – PHL -4
I know it’s Bill Belichick, the game is in New England and they’re honoring some guy named Tom Brady at halftime. Doesn’t matter. This Eagles team is really good. The defense might need a bit of time to come together, but the offense is better than last season’s. If I remember correctly was incredible and the games were over by the 3rd quarter. This season with the defense coming together they might need to play the starters into the 4th quarter because the games could be slightly closer. Jalen Hurts and the offense might need to knock off the rust a bit early, but once they do I think they win by a touchdown.
