The Eagles Can Still Win The NFC East
If you read this headline a couple weeks ago you’d say, “yea, no sh!t. Haven’t they already clinched?” No, they haven’t and they aren’t even alone at the top of the division anymore. When you look at the current standings, you’ll see the Cowboys ahead of the Eagles in the NFC East. You’ll also see the Eagles have dropped from the 1 seed to the 5 seed thanks to their current play. They should just stop struggling on offense and defense. It would solve all their problems!
So the day after an absolute beat down, we’re all mad. We’re feeling down. How could you not. You waited all day to see that game and then just watched them completely poop the bed. They have time to figure it out, but boy this season looks different than last season. Don’t despair too much yet. They can still win the division. Can they still get the 1 seed? Yes surprisingly enough they can.
For the Eagles to win the division they just need to win the remainder of their games. They would hold the tiebreaker over Dallas if this were to happen. That gives them the NFC East, and a home game on Super Wildcard weekend. The final four games for the Eagles start with a tough one on the road in Seattle. A building that’s crowd noise is one hell of a home field advantage. If they can get through that, then they have the Giants twice and the Arizona Cardinals. Bing, Bang, boom 4 wins NFC East division and the 2 seed. It also helps that Dallas now has to travel to play both Buffalo and Miami on the road in back to back weeks. “But what there’s more!”
The Eagles are not out of it in terms of getting the 1 seed and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Yea, I know, as bad as it is right now, this is still very much within reach. For this to happen the Eagles need to win out and the San Francisco 49ers need to lose 1 game. Tough hill to climb right? We all just became massive Baltimore Ravens fans. Can we get a Christmas miracle in Philadelphia? A Fairytale in Philadelphia maybe? The Niners host the Baltimore Ravens on Christmas night. A big fat L under the SF tree would go a long way for the Eagles. If the season finished this way, with another SF loss and 4 straight Eagles wins (against poor opponents) then the Eagles get to sleep in their own beds for the playoffs.
The Eagles can still win the NFC East, and more than likely will take the division. After winning the division there is a not super slim chance of recapturing the NFC’s top seed.
