The Philadelphia Eagles Aren’t Super Bowl Contenders
Any Eagles piece I write today, the morning after blowing a game in Seattle is going to be cathartic. They’re all going to be mostly angry, and there might be a bunch of them. I’m working through the season going into the toilet. We start with what I believe to be obvious at this point. The Philadelphia Eagles aren’t Super Bowl Contenders.
In the last month and a half, this version of the Philadelphia Eagles have shown they aren’t a Super Bowl contender this season. The 10-1 start was fraudulent. Their deficiencies were covered up by early season games against inferior opponents. Once they hit a stretch of good teams, the wheels just completely fell off. The offense forgot how to offense and the defense forgot how to defense. The only thing that seems to be working correctly for this team at the moment is their kicking game, but they aren’t able to get the kicker on the field when it matters. Instead they throw bonehead deep bombs when you only need 15 yards to give that kicking game a chance.
Last night they went into Seattle with a chance to put a stranglehold on the NFC East division and almost guarantee themselves a home playoff game. Everything seemed like it was going to go their way, and they’d get right against a poor Seahawks defense and a backup quarterback. Silly us! We’re Eagles fans and are doomed to take the most painful, stressful road to the offseason possible.
A true Super Bowl contender doesn’t need to change both their top coordinators down the stretch run. That is what teams that are going to be picking in the top 10 picks of the next NFL draft do. Take a look at the top teams in the conferences. Are they making moves with their coordinators in the stretch run? Jerry Jones isn’t even doing that in Dallas and he tinkers more than a fantasy football player. The Eagles are in trouble. They’re not a Super Bowl Contender, and they could be looking at an early playoff exit in January of 2024. A sentence only 1 month ago, nobody in Philadelphia thought possible.
