Jason Kelce Wrote a Christmas Song
Jason Kelce is a Hall of Famer. He’s probably the best center in the history of football. He’s a special person. Most importantly he’s a Philadelphian. Has a Philadelphia sports player ever had so many layers continuously peeled back this late in their career? We’ve all gotten to see him play at a very high level for a long time. Who knew he had some musical chops too? We all found that out last Christmas when the Jason, Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata recorded A Philly Special Christmas. Did you know that Jason Kelce wrote a Christmas song that appears on the new album?
I know that other former athletes have put out music before, but the results were nothing like what Kelce and the Eagles offensive line. Former Phillies pitcher Brett Myers has his country rock music he’s still currently putting out. Allen Iverson had his rap alias Jewelz, and his album that he knows was terrible. He said it himself when he did Cold As Balls with Kevin Hart.
Now maybe it helps that Kelce is doing it with other guys on the team and one of the 3 main singers on the album is a legitimat vocal talent. It could also help that Christmas music is a bit different than normal times of year music. Still credit where credit is due, the A Philly Christmas Special albums 1 & 2 are really well done. They all have surprisingly good voices for guys that when you look at them, you’d think there is no way they can sing.
In an interview with the NFL Network’s Peter Schrager, Connor Barwin explained how Jason went about writing a song. Barwin explains how Jason came up with the idea for a song about Santa Claus, but also equates it to being a football player and a parent, etc. What NFL player does that? Check out the interview clip here: Conor Barwin explains how Jason Kelce wrote a Christmas Song. Both Philly Special Christmas albums are great. Jason Kelce is something else, and we’re lucky to have him in Philadelphia.
