NFL Analyst Still Thinks Eagles Should Start Marcus Mariota
On television and the internet you sometimes need to have a hot take to stand out. There are plenty of people that do it. Make an outlandish statement and then the clip blows up on twitter. That’s the world we currently live in. It’s not great, but it’s where we are on this dumb timeline. There are a few hot take artists here in Philadelphia who like to get the people going with ridiculous tweets and takes.
Earlier this week former NFL QB and now analyst for NFL Network, David Carr decided he had a hot take to get off his chest. He said that Marcus Mariota might be a better option for the 10 win and 2 loss Eagles than Jalen Hurts. Here is the clip to prove I’m not messing with you.
"I'd say he's probably better at playing quarterback for the Philadelphia @Eagles, right now he'd be more productive."@DCarr8 emphasizes Marcus Mariota should be the QB1 over Jalen Hurts. 😳 pic.twitter.com/rGgp6WZjIG

Jalen Hurts’ knee is banged up. Jalen Hurts’ knee has not been removed from his body. That would be the only reason to put Marcus Mariota on the field at this point in the Eagles season. This statement is foolish on many levels, 1 of which is have you seen Marcus Mariota in the NFL over the last few seasons? Like at all? He is terrible.
Carr obviously got the reaction he was looking for because they gave him a chance to calrify or walk back his statement on another edition of NFL Total Access. He brought his workpants for this episode because he said, “I’m not gonna backpedal.” He still thinks the Eagles can get by with Marcus Mariota at QB, because the number 1 seed doesn’t matter anymore since San Francisco won in Philadelphia. It absolutely matters in the playoffs. Home field advantage. Playing the weaker of the remaining opponents. Getting that week off to allow Hurts to get healthy. The exact thing Carr said in his original statement. I mean, come on man.

You never start Marcus Mariota over Jalen Hurts unless you have secured the 1 seed and the playoff bye week, or a part of Jalen’s body falls off. My toddler knows that, but she won’t give Carr the double bird because she doesn’t know who he is.
