My First Time Playing Pickleball With Radio Friends Was A Blast
Last week, I shared with you that I was going to be playing a new game for the first time, and how excited I was to compete in this tournament. It is a sport that has taken over both the local neighborhoods and nationally as well. Of course, I am talking about pickleball!
Well, it finally happened this Saturday at the Philly Home + Garden Show Pickleball Tournament, which took place in Oaks, PA, at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center.
It was such a blast and I’ll have to play it again once I learn the rules a little bit more!
It was actually a four-team pickleball tournament, and all four teams were represented by me and other radio friends that you are familiar with in the Philly area.
Each team was representing their respective station, including WMGK, WMMR, WXTU, and BEN FM.
WMMR was represented by Casey Boy, WXTU was represented by Andie Summers, and BEN FM was represented by Kristen Herrmann.
Of course, I was playing for team WMGK with my niece Lily, who is a naturally gifted athlete, so I knew we were going to be a hard team to beat!
In the end, Lily and I did not win, but we hung in there during both games we played and each match was really close!
Although we played each game really close, I have to admit, I still don’t completely understand the rules of pickleball!
I did learn a couple of terms like “side out” and “in the kitchen,” which are really fun to say, but still not completely sure what they mean!
Congratulations to Andie Summers and her daughter Tori who were the overall winners of the pickleball tournament.
It was a ton of fun, and, who knows, maybe you’ll see me on a pickleball court near you in the future!

Matt Cord's Top Five Journey and Def Leppard Songs
If you were not tuning into The Matt Cord Show With Steve Vassalotti yesterday — and if you weren’t, then what the heck else were you doing — then you may have missed a big announcement that we made involving Journey and Def Leppard!
Steve, Eric Johnson, and I made the official announcement that MGK is bringing both Journey and Def Leppard to Citizens Bank Park this summer on July 23rd, 2024!
Plus, The Steve Miller Band will also be coming to town in support of the two iconic bands.
What could be better than two legendary bands coming together to perform on the same tour in the best city in the world?!
The only thing I can think of is having two legendary bands coming together to perform on the same tour in the best city in the world, and the best classic rock station in the world being involved as well!
If you listen to the station regularly, then you know that both Journey and Def Leppard play on our airwaves daily. If there’s one thing you can count on, it’s that you can hear those two legendary bands on all of MGK’s playlists.
Well, now you have the opportunity to see all those classic songs live this summer.
Tickets go on sale next Friday, December 15th, at 10 a.m., so mark your calendars.
Oh, and I can’t forget to mention that you will have plenty of opportunities to win free tickets through the station.
So keep that dial locked onto 102.9 WMGK all weekend long for your chance to win some free tickets!
Plus, we will have tickets all of next week on The Matt Cord Show With Steve Vassalotti, so make sure you tune in bright and early so you don’t miss out!
I can’t wait for July to roll around to see both Journey and Def Leppard put on a show!
But in the meantime, take a look at my top five songs from each band below!
Enjoy!
