Philadelphia Eagles: Drafting SEC Players is Smart
Eagles drafting SEC players is smart. Drafting non-SEC players is not smart. That second statement isn’t totally true, but you get the idea. The Southeastern Conference in the best conference in college football so it makes the most sense to poach skill position players from the top offenses and defenses in the country. Philadelphia Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman 2.0 seems to understand this fact if you look at his last 3 drafts.
2020
Jalen Hurts (QB Alabama)
2021
DeVonta Smith (WR Alabama)
Landon Dickerson (OL Alabama)
2022
Jordan Davis (DL Georgia)
Nakobe Dean (LB Georgia)
Traded for AJ Brown (WR Ole Miss)
2023 *ONLY ROUND 1 HAS HAPPENED AT TIME OF WRITING*
Jalen Carter (DL Georgia)
Nolan Smith (DL Georgia)
This is a recipe for success! We’re witnessing an amazing run of SEC picks and pickups by Howie. As shocking as this might sound after I’ve gone on about picking SEC players, you do need to draft from outside the SEC, not often, but you should still do it. I feel like offensive lineman from the Big 10 are almost always good picks. Just like the SEC and developing skill position players, there is something about the BIG 10 that seems to produce really good lineman.
Howie isn’t done shaping this team for next season as there is still rounds 2-7 in the 2023 NFL draft, but it looks like it’s going to be another really fun Eagles season. Go Birds! Go Dawgs! Let’s end this with some Howie Roseman appreciation posts from last night!
Eagles will likely receive a third-round compensatory pick in the 2024 NFL Draft for losing Javon Hargrave.

An absolutely perfect grade.
Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith.
Howie Roseman is basically playing Madden on Rookie mode.
Now some pain and Howie appreciation, at the same time, from one of ESPN’s best analysts and former Cowboy Marcus Spears.
If Philly take Jalen Carter Howie Roseman needs a Bust in Canton Tonight
